This large, hand-printed piece measuring 36 inches by 36 inches was a labor of love. Inspired by Harriet Tubman’s connection to the Barred Owl, it stands on piles of beads that belonged to countless Black women and girls who persevered and struggled in a harsh and unforgiving world. As a nocturnal creature, the barred owl serves as the protector and guardian of the vulnerable during the night of uncertainty. She nests them to shield them from harm. Perhaps, all these motifs are simply historical treasures that have been preserved.
